What people say about us

Eloge Vilfranc President, Fondation Clarina Bastia (FCB)

I first learned about FOKAL in 1998, when I was a student. In 2022, I had the opportunity to work directly with the Foundation through its support for a project promoting the socio-economic rights of isolated women and girls, led by the FCB. I quickly realized that FOKAL is much more than a partner, it is a committed actor standing by the most vulnerable in a country with little real social assistance.

I have been collaborating with FOKAL since 2005 in the fields of storytelling and theater. My first experience took place within the ‘Ripòtchanm’ project, centered on the tales of Félix Morisseau-Leroy. I later benefited from several training workshops in acting, directing, stage lighting, communication, and leadership. This collaboration allowed me to take part in intercultural exchanges and various community activities. FOKAL played a central role in creating the ‘Theater and Education’ program in 2005 and the Kont Anba Tonèl festival in 2009. My partnership with FOKAL has helped me strengthen my artistic skills and civic engagement, while greatly enriching both my professional and personal journey.

In 2023 and 2024, FOKAL supported my participation in the annual conferences of the American Psychological Association (APA). Two defining moments in my journey as an emerging researcher that I could not have afforded on my student income. FOKAL’s support was especially decisive in 2024, when two of my studies conducted in Haiti were accepted for scientific poster presentations. This opportunity allowed me to bring Haiti’s voice into global discussions on issues related to climate change, gender, and public health. I sincerely hope that FOKAL will continue, for decades to come, to create spaces where researchers can make Haiti shine on the international stage.
